a little life update + a recipe

Hello Lovelies!

cropped-2015-05-31-08-58-25-1.jpg

I hope your week is going well so far! Mine is as hectic as ever but there are such exciting things happening in the next few days or so, which definitely gives me the energy and strength to push through. I have found myself thinking about blog ideas so often in school that I decided to make a list of things I can post!

Here’s a few things that are planned for this month:

1. Bethel

Tomorrow I am so fortunate to be going to a Bethel worship night which I am so excited about, words cannot describe! Bethel has actually released a new album called “We Will Not Be Shaken” and it is just incredible! The songs are so beautifully written and I have found that they are also so relevant to my life & what I’ve been needing to hear! Definitely go have a listen!

Some of my favourite songs:

You Don’t Miss a Thing // In Over My Head // No Longer Slaves // Jesus We Love You

2. One Direction

I still remember the night when I received the tickets! I went out to dinner at Cape Town Fish Market with my bestie & her dad (who had booked the tickets) gave them to us! We were honestly bouncing off the walls with excitement. To think I’m going to see them in concert is such a dream come true and I literally cannot wait! (expect a post soon about my whole 1D experience!)

3. It’s my birthday (nearly!!)

On March 29, I’ll be turning 15! So much has happened in a year. So many lessons have been learned. I’ve laughed & cried more then ever but come out the happiest I’ve ever been. But I shall save all of that info for another post!

4. A (super simple) recipe

This is hardly a recipe because it is all pretty self-explanatory but I thought I’d show you a few pictures of the dinner we had tonight. One of my resolutions for this year was to learn to cook, so what I’ve decided to do is organize a day of the week with my mum when I make dinner. It’s such a great way to start off cooking & you can use super simple recipes to begin with.

Tonight we just had pesto chicken & pasta with a side of salad.

DSC_0077There isn’t an exact recipe for this meal, as you can really just play around till it tastes good.

Ingredients:

  • strips of chicken breasts
  • coconut oil & garlic (for cooking the chicken in)
  • cream & pesto
  • seasoning of your choice – we used potato spice (what even?) and salt + pepper

For cooking:

  • place your chicken into a pan with coconut oil & garlic and mix with spatula till cooked
  • add in the cream, pesto & seasonings

It’s as simple as that! If you happen to try this recipe, please let me know how it goes!

Thanks for reading beautiful people.

Be good to yourself,

xo Hannah

a mini lookbook.

Greetings Internet!

Happy Sunday! I hope you have all had a lovely relaxing day! Mine was pretty busy, as we went to church quite early this morning, then straight home to take my dad to the airport. Other than that life’s been pretty much the same. Lots of homework and little sleep, but I’m possibly happier than I’ve ever been. You see, the seasons are changing here in South Africa from summer into autumn. Leaves are falling and the sun is setting earlier. We’ve also had pretty rainy weather these past few days – it was this that gave me the idea for today’s blog post.

I wouldn’t grant myself as a very stylish person, but I thought it would be fun to do a little lookbook on how you can use your same clothes from summer & add a few accessories to change them to suit the ‘fall’ time.

I hope you enjoy my attempt at a simple, casual summer-to-autumn lookbook.

This is my typical Sunday outfit for summer. Blouse, cardigan, jeans & All-Stars.

On a side note, I got my hair cut this weekend! I was joined by my loveliest friend, Sarah! She actually included some photos in her most recent blog post! (thanks Sar!) check it out here.

/// AUTUMN

DSC_0007[1]

My typical autumn outfit. Coat, lace-up ankle boots & a scarf.

DSC_1090[1]

This wasn’t included in the previous picture, but I also add a beanie to autumn my outfit up.

Here’s a close-up of my favourite scarf to wear in autumn (even winter). It’s a chunky knit scarf in a lovely mustard colour.

Coat, beanie & scarf.

I really love the neutral colours for fall. It gives a somewhat elegant, chic look to your outfit. Also, you can add splashes of colour to your outfit if you feel like it!

I believe in the little details & touches.

Plain pearl earrings would add a stunning touch to this outfit. I found these pretty vintage earrings which I thought would go beautifully with the outfit.

Lastly, here are my lace-up ankle boots – these just have a such a fall feel! You could also add super cute frilly socks with these shoes which would look so pretty!

And that’s it! I hope you have a bit of inspiration for autumn!

This lookbook was really just a guideline; you could totally switch up the jeans for leggings or use knee-high boots instead! This was simply showing you some basics you could have in your outfit & some pretty details to show you put some effort into your look for the day!

Have an absolutely great week, we’ll be chatting soon, I promise.

Be good to yourself,

xo Hannah

thoughts for the week

JPEG_20150316_180452_-914195391~2 I found a YouTube video that gave such a good illustration & I decided to share it with you lovelies.

Picture you have an ice-cream, it’s your favourite flavour, topped off with your favourite sauce & everything. The downside is that on top of it, there’s a small sprinkling of nuts. You hate nuts.

We can all relate this ice-cream illustration to something in our lives. Such great things are ahead of us, but to reach that awesome point in your day/week/life, you gotta go through some stuff you really don’t enjoy doing.

This could be anything, from having to buy groceries to giving a presentation. But you can’t focus on that. Think, on the other side of your grocery shop your house is filled with fresh food for you to cook up something delicious, or after that presentation you receive the job you’ve been hoping for.

To get to the good part, the best part of the ice-cream, you gotta eat the nuts. I know, it tastes disgusting in the moment, and you really don’t feel like eating it. But then you do, and what’s left? a flippin’ delicious chocolate-brownie ice-cream (or whatever your favourite flavour may be). After going through that horrible little patch (*cough* high school), which wasn’t that fun, in the end turned out to be worth it.

In ending off this slightly cheesy/motivation post, just know that you will conquer the “mountains” you are facing right now. Try not to ponder on them too much, but rather think about the view when you get to the top.

Be good to yourself,

xo Hannah

I honestly cannot believe it’s March already. So many exciting things are happening this month & it’s also my birthday pretty soon which is always fun! Looking back, February has been a stressful month – full of assignments, projects and presentations – but nonetheless I have found things in it that I liked and learned amidst the chaos!

I’m trying to keep y’all up to date with my current favourites of each month. Today’s one of those posts – I hope you enjoy!

  • oh wonder – all we do
  • danai moore – something out there

/// Home

I have been loving Scandinavian interiors + recently I bought myself a cushion for my bedroom. It looks similar to this, except mine’s grey and white: 1cdff5b53983b4f34e2f53b975771a3a – I (sorta) redid my bedroom (again). I’m loving the simple, minimalist look. On Pinterest, I found a few ideas for decorating your bedroom if you’re into that lovely Scandi-style:

What I love about this style is you can start off with a basic neutral palette  – blacks, whites, greys – and then throw some splashes of colour in, which means you can constantly change your room around – going with the seasonal trends, but always having a base to come back to.

/// Lifestyle

this month I’ve been…

  • drinking: green juice as well as beetroot + carrot juice. neither of these may sound appealing but you really don’t know until you try!
  • eating: 2 minute banana bread, lemon – on just about everything, salted caramel ice cream (at 2am most nights)
  • going: for more walks and runs in my area (quite contradiction to my last point)
  • reading: “If I Stay” – Gayle Forman
  • watching: far too much ‘slam poetry’ (check out Button Poetry, as I mentioned in a post a while back)

Thanks for reading! I hope this post gave you some inspiration for things to do / check out this month.

I hope March is a goodie.

Until next time, be good to yourself,
