Hey Dreamers

Today, I went on my first adventure for 2015.

Meet my adventure diary. You’ll be seeing lots of him this year.

I’ve decided that in 2015 I’m going to document, capture, record, savour & remember the good stuff.

DSC_0498[1](if you look really closely, those till slips are from cotton on. can we just pretend they were from Braamies?)

I went to this place in town called Braamfontein . It’s full of hipsters and coffee and art.

I love having a parts of the city like this. Though it’s been discovered, it feels like there’s so much undiscovered, so much more to find and to see. It’s the old mixed with the new, and somehow that all works together.

20150117_105654 20150117_105701On every street, there’s some piece of art. It’s inspiring to see the different creations that people have come up with, because it meant something to them. And for that reason I think it should be acknowledged and appreciated. Art isn’t necessarily a fine or precious or pretty thing. These sculptures, paintings and designs may not look beautiful to you, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t art.

I love to walk along the streets. I like to watch people (#stalker). I like to see things and smell things and feel things. There’s something beautiful about seeing things for yourself, because nobody sees things the same way you do.

Here a few pictures I took on our wonderful little adventure in Braamfontein.

20150117_11035620150117_115607What I love about this part of the city is that things are so unexpected. One moment you are staring at a broken down block of flats and the next a renewed building full of vibrant colours, people swarming in and out, adventures taking place.20150117_11105920150117_115521The Boiler Room ft. creepy man on the wall ft. The Grove 20150117_115626 A little coffee shop we sat at while eating our lunch. It was so intriguing watching the world go by. Old people and young people and eyes full of hope, it’s places like this where your faith in humanity almost gets restored. You realise that in the seemingly ugliness of a broken down area, new life is springing up around every corner.

img1421493037634Next up, we went to the Neighbourgoods Market – which is everyone’s favourite spot. It’s a double story concrete building jam packed with thrift shops, ice-cream stalls, leather bags, jewelry, drinks and food from just about anywhere on the planet.

We had super yummy smoothies – mixed-berry, mint, chocolate & also had a few snacks – beef samoosas + banana and chocolate spring rolls (?!) + dumplings + this other weird prawn and veggie stuff in basically an uncooked spring roll. 20150117_115800

You’ll never be disappointed, because there’s something for everyone. Great coffee, curries, burgers, milkshakes, lemonades, pancakes, seafood and so much more.

20150117_121917 Last, but not least: We went to “Father Coffee” to end off the most wonderful day. A narrow little place, quite easily missed but quite easily outdoes any coffee I’ve ever tasted.20150117_122437 I hoped you liked following me around on my first adventure. I hope to go on many many more during the course of this year, so stick around!

Until I write again, be good to yourself.

holiday adventures + book wrapping.

Hello Beauties!

This is my technically my “first post” as my previous one was more of an introduction. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas & enjoyed all the festivities of the season! I was extremely lucky to have been able to spend my holiday in Cape Town (only the most beautiful city on the African continent). My time there was filled with lots of crafting, baking, night markets, family & food. (is there any other way?!)

It was honestly the perfect holiday and every thing I wanted to do, we did. We hiked in nature reserves and drank peanut butter smoothies and ate real Chinese dumplings and met Jackass penguins (they smell really bad) and had road trips along the coastline and swam in the ocean and felt sand between my toes and ate ice creams at 11pm and watched the lights flicker across the bay at midnight. And it was perfect.

Fast forward to today. It’s 08:51pm & I should be heading to bed soon. I am yet to get in the “school routine” of early mornings and early nights (I’m quite the opposite, you see.)

So, this post probably won’t apply to most of you reading this, but tomorrow, I start my new year at school. I’m most definitely nervous, but also excited because I know this year there’ll be tons of new opportunities and adventures and experiences to be had. That thought makes me a very happy person.

I thought I’d share the covers for my books this year. I opted for brown paper as 1) I am OBSESSED with brown paper, also because 2) it’s super cheap but mostly because 3) I can go completely nuts with doodles and paint and ink.

Here they all are.

I honestly had such fun with them, and as you can see some still look a little bare – it’s just because I’m still in the process of ‘arting’ them up & I really felt the need to post this before school began. I am super proud of them, and I’m happy that I have something to be proud about. And, that’s about all I have to say.

To whoever reads this, I love you dearly. Thanks for taking the time to scroll through my little story of the day.

Until I write again, be good to yourself
