Hey Dreamers
Today, I went on my first adventure for 2015.
Meet my adventure diary. You’ll be seeing lots of him this year.
I’ve decided that in 2015 I’m going to document, capture, record, savour & remember the good stuff.
(if you look really closely, those till slips are from cotton on. can we just pretend they were from Braamies?)
I went to this place in town called Braamfontein . It’s full of hipsters and coffee and art.
I love having a parts of the city like this. Though it’s been discovered, it feels like there’s so much undiscovered, so much more to find and to see. It’s the old mixed with the new, and somehow that all works together.
On every street, there’s some piece of art. It’s inspiring to see the different creations that people have come up with, because it meant something to them. And for that reason I think it should be acknowledged and appreciated. Art isn’t necessarily a fine or precious or pretty thing. These sculptures, paintings and designs may not look beautiful to you, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t art.
I love to walk along the streets. I like to watch people (#stalker). I like to see things and smell things and feel things. There’s something beautiful about seeing things for yourself, because nobody sees things the same way you do.
Here a few pictures I took on our wonderful little adventure in Braamfontein.
What I love about this part of the city is that things are so unexpected. One moment you are staring at a broken down block of flats and the next a renewed building full of vibrant colours, people swarming in and out, adventures taking place. The Boiler Room ft. creepy man on the wall ft. The Grove A little coffee shop we sat at while eating our lunch. It was so intriguing watching the world go by. Old people and young people and eyes full of hope, it’s places like this where your faith in humanity almost gets restored. You realise that in the seemingly ugliness of a broken down area, new life is springing up around every corner.
Next up, we went to the Neighbourgoods Market – which is everyone’s favourite spot. It’s a double story concrete building jam packed with thrift shops, ice-cream stalls, leather bags, jewelry, drinks and food from just about anywhere on the planet.
We had super yummy smoothies – mixed-berry, mint, chocolate & also had a few snacks – beef samoosas + banana and chocolate spring rolls (?!) + dumplings + this other weird prawn and veggie stuff in basically an uncooked spring roll.
You’ll never be disappointed, because there’s something for everyone. Great coffee, curries, burgers, milkshakes, lemonades, pancakes, seafood and so much more.
Last, but not least: We went to “Father Coffee” to end off the most wonderful day. A narrow little place, quite easily missed but quite easily outdoes any coffee I’ve ever tasted. I hoped you liked following me around on my first adventure. I hope to go on many many more during the course of this year, so stick around!
Until I write again, be good to yourself.
